Just a quick one today. People (at least in Beirut) have been afroth this week about the roving blackouts that have struck the capital. Theories abound. Popular are the beliefs that Jibran Bassil, son-in-law to General Aoun, is behind the cuts, which, given the minister’s stiflingly inept track record, is tempting to agree with. Another argument is that this was the state’s way of hitting back at all those nasty people who keep burning perfectly good tires, blocking main thoroughfares, and generally causing a menace to everyone. I wouldn’t even mind if that was the case, actually.
